ROME: Total War for mobile

OUT NOW FOR iOS & ANDROID

The Big Total War: ROME "Imperium Update" Changescroll

The Imperium Update for Total War: ROME introduces a wealth of control improvements which will be familiar to anyone who has played MEDIEVAL II on iOS and Android.

These changes include new gestures and options for touch controls, and support for mouse & keyboard. The full range of unit sizes have been unlocked, game saves are now sorted by campaign, and a wide array of bugs and balance issues have been addressed.

Almost all the changes apply to all three of Total War: ROME, Barbarian Invasion and Alexander. Read on for the full list of changes:

Mouse & Keyboard Support

You can now play ROME on iPad and Android with a compatible mouse and keyboard. Default configurations are very similar to the desktop version of the game, and once a keyboard is connected, keybindings can be edited in the Options menu.

Touch Control Additions & Improvements

Campaign Controls
  • As well as drawing movement paths, players can now issue move orders for a selected army/agent/fleet by simply tapping and holding on a destination.
Battle Controls
  • Positioning Mode: Tapping and holding on selected unit(s) enters Positioning Mode, allowing players to precisely adjust their position, facing and formation depth.
  • Group Grid: With units grouped, players can now quickly select groups via an expandable/collapsible “Group Grid” on the left of the screen.
  • Automatic Unit Deselection: Players now have a choice of behaviours to determine whether units are deselected once orders are given.
  • Melee Mode: Adds a third state to the “Enable/Disable Fire at Will” button to instruct ranged units to use melee weapons.
  • Command Slowdown: Adds an option to automatically slow down gameplay while complex orders are being given, for example drawing a movement path, adjusting formation depth, or using Positioning Mode. This behaviour is enabled by default.
  • Targeting Pins: With a unit (or multiple units) selected, red pins will indicate the target of their current orders e.g. the location they are moving to, or the enemy unit they are attacking.
  • Incremental Speed Controls: Players can now choose to use incremental battle speed controls using +/- buttons rather than an individual button for each speed setting.
  • Camera Pan Speed Slider: Players can now adjust the speed of camera panning via a slider in the Options menu.
  • Location-Based Zoom Options: Players can adjust the behaviour of camera zoom based on where on the screen they perform a gesture. By default, the camera will zoom on the area of the screen where the gesture is being performed. This can be disabled, meaning the camera always zooms on the centre of the screen.
  • Minimap Improvements: The Minimap UI has been redesigned to be closer to that of MEDIEVAL II, with zooming and navigation now much smoother. A new “Reset to Default View” button allows players to reset the Minimap view quickly and easily.
  • Halt Button Improvements: Halting orders was previously a two-step action (tap Halt once to select, and again to confirm). Players can now disable Halt Confirmation to make this a one-step action (i.e. tap Halt once to issue order). For new players, Halt Confirmation is disabled by default.
  • Smooth Zoom Curve: When enabled, the battle camera tilt will curve smoothly when zooming. This produces clear strategic bird’s eye views, and dramatic close-ups of the action as the zoom level dictates.
  • Faster “Zoom to Unit” Camera Option: When double-tapping to pan to a selected unit players can now choose between “Fast” and “Slow” camera options. With the new “Fast” mode enabled, the camera will snap to the unit much quicker than previously.

  • Fixed 6 instances of broken priestly ancillary triggers for Generals.
  • Fixed an issue with duplicate ancillaries
  • Fixed an issue where Italian provinces spawn Greek rebels.

    • The Temple of Epona and the Pantheon no longer appear in the building browser when playing as Gauls or Spanish.
    • Added a law bonus to Academy buildings, matching behaviour in Barbarian Invasion.
    • Added +1 to experience when recruiting Greek Cavalry in Elite Stables.

    • Fixed a trigger that could result in BadTaxman trait being gained unfairly.
    • Added triggers to allow Intelligent and Genius characters to be born.
    • Tweaked triggers for Logistics trait so it is more likely to trigger.
    • Disabled incorrect IndecisiveAttacker triggers.
    • Fixed issues with Senate Office triggers, which could result in characters losing some Senate titles.
