As part of the Steam download process, the game has already been installed on your computer. To start playing the game, read the Getting Started section.
If it is not already running, launch the Steam application.
Select Library.
In the library, select Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, then select Play. The game will launch.
After the loading screens, a screen will appear asking you to adjust the game's gamma level. Use the Left and Right arrow keys to adjust the gamma to your preference, then press the Space bar.
The Main Menu will appear. Select Play.
The Select Game Mode screen will appear. Select Story Mode.
After the opening video, you'll find Talion, a Ranger of Gondor, sparring with his son Dirhael…
The most important factors in determining how smoothly Middle-earth™: Shadow of Mordor™ GOTY plays are your CPU speed, the amount of built-in RAM, the type of graphics card in your computer and the in-game settings you select.
Middle-earth™: Shadow of Mordor™ GOTY is playable with the minimum specifications listed below, but it will play more smoothly on faster computers with more RAM. However, if you are dissatisfied with the performance of the game on your computer, there are a couple of things you can do that are likely to improve performance:
In addition to these general actions, there are numerous specific in-game settings you can select to speed up the game. These are listed below in order of performance improvement (largest improvement first). Move down the list adjusting settings until you find an acceptable balance between performance and graphics.
NOTE: All of these settings are found within the game under Options → Video and Options → Advanced Options, accessible from the Main Menu.
To uninstall Middle-earth™: Shadow of Mordor™ GOTY, follow these steps:
If it is not already running, launch the Steam application.
Select the Library tab.
In the library, right-click on Middle-earth™: Shadow of Mordor™ GOTY in the list of games on the left-hand side of the window, then select Manage → Uninstall.
A dialog will appear confirming that you wish to delete all the game content. Select Uninstall.
You may also wish to remove the Middle-earth™: Shadow of Mordor™ GOTY preferences, which are stored in the feral-interactive folder in your computer's ~/.local/share folder (where the "~" symbol refers to your home directory). Deleting the preferences folder will remove the save files, so all game progress will be lost.
NOTE: By default, the .local folder is hidden from Files. Press Control (ctrl) + H to reveal hidden folders.
NOTE: If you have more than one game from Feral installed, remember to check inside the folder so that you do not delete preferences for other Feral games.
