Important Health Warning About Playing Video Games

Photosensitive Seizures

A very small percentage of people may experience a seizure when exposed to certain visual images, including flashing lights or patterns that may appear in video games. Even people who have no history of seizures or epilepsy may have an undiagnosed condition that can cause these “photosensitive epileptic seizures” while watching video games.

These seizures may have a variety of symptoms, including lightheadedness, altered vision, eye or face twitching, jerking or shaking of arms or legs, disorientation, confusion, or momentary loss of awareness. Seizures may also cause loss of consciousness or convulsions that can lead to injury from falling down or striking nearby objects.

Immediately stop playing and consult a doctor if you experience any of these symptoms. Parents should watch for or ask their children about the above symptoms—children and teenagers are more likely than adults to experience these seizures. The risk of photosensitive epileptic seizures may be reduced by taking the following precautions: Sit farther from the screen; use a smaller screen; play in a well-lit room; and do not play when you are drowsy or fatigued. If you or any of your relatives have a history of seizures or epilepsy, consult a doctor before playing.

Precautions to take during use

  • Sit a good distance away from the monitor.
  • Avoid playing if you are tired or have not had much sleep.
  • Make sure that the room in which you are playing is well lit.
  • Rest for at least 10 to 15 minutes per hour while playing a video game.

Career

Create a driver, join a team, then compete in the full, 20-race FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP across 10 seasons to forge your own path and become a legend. You can customize the length of your experience and choose full practice and qualifying sessions, or simply opt for one-shot qualifying to focus on the race.

Beat your rivals and exceed your objectives to impress your team's owners. Good performances can earn you contract offers from rival teams, allowing you to progress up the grid.

When starting a new career, you can enable the Pro Career settings for the ultimate challenge. Full practice and qualifying sessions are mandatory, and race settings are pre-set for the most realistic Grand Prix experience. Flashbacks and all driving assists are disabled, the camera angle is restricted to the cockpit, and the AI difficulty is set to maximum. To enable Pro Career settings, press the F6 key at the Career Weekend Structure screen when starting a new career.

During your career you will be invited to a number of Invitational Events, in which you will drive classic cars in a variety of race scenarios with specific objectives. When you complete an Invitational Event, it becomes available to replay in Championships mode.

Championships

Compete in 20 full- or short-season championships across a range of disciplines. Complete each championship to earn points and unlock new challenges.

When you first play F1 2017, you will have access to the following six championships:

2017 Formula One World Championship: Take control of a licensed Formula One driver and compete in the official 2017 season. This is the quickest and simplest way to get straight into a full Formula One season in F1 2017. Each round consists of practice, qualifying and race.

Classic Championship Season: A full season of classic circuits in classic cars. This championship uses a classic scoring system, where only the top 6 drivers score points. Each round consists of practice, qualifying and race.

Sprint Championship: A full season in modern cars, where the starting grids is randomized for race one, and then reverse championship order is used for each following race. Each round consists of races only.

Classic All-Weather Championship: A short season of classic cars competing in extreme weather conditions. The grid is set randomly for each race, meaning the winners will be those who can consistently fight their way to the front while staying on track. Each round consists of races only.

Double-Header Tour: A full season in modern cars, with two races per round; a Feature Race and a Sprint Race. For Feature Races, grid positions are determined by the qualifying session and standard points are up for grabs. For Sprint Races, the grid is reversed and fewer points are on offer. Each round consists of qualifying, Race 1 (standard points) and Race 2 (reduced points).

Classic Hot Lap Series: A full season in classic cars. Standard points are available in the qualifying race, followed by a reverse grid race with reduced points. Each round consists of qualifying and race.

In Championships mode, you can also replay any Invitational Events that you have already completed in Career mode.

9

Grand Prix

The Grand Prix mode allows you to compete in an individual race weekend, or build your own custom Grand Prix series.

To see the leaderboard for a circuit, highlight it in the Time Trial menu and press the F2 key.

Instant Race

To jump straight into a race as a random driver on a random circuit with default race settings, highlight Grand Prix in the Main Menu and press the F1 Key.

You can also create or compete in an Online Championship, a full online season of Formula One racing with other players. When creating an Online Championship, you have full control over the session and race settings, including which era of vehicles to race on which tracks, the maximum number of championship participants, the race distance, the inclusion of practice and qualifying rounds, and the difficulty of AI drivers.

Car Handling

F1™ 2017 realistically simulates tire wear, car temperature, fuel weight, weather conditions and aerodynamics to offer you the most immersive racing experience possible. The way your car handles will change throughout the race depending on these factors.

To get an update on your car’s status, press the NumPad 0 key to switch between information about fuel usage, damage and the temperature of different parts of your car.

Voice Control

If you have a microphone attached to your computer, you can request updates from your engineer during the race by speaking to him.

To talk to your engineer, hold down the T key and say one of the commands shown on screen to get information on that topic.

11

Assists

Driving assists are optional features that help you control your car, including anti-lock brakes, automatic gear changing and traction control. If you're having difficulty with the game, try enabling some of the assists. Experienced players looking for more of a challenge should disable the assists.

You can enable or disable driving assists either before or during races:

  • When a race is loading, press the Tab key to open the Options menu, then select PreferencesAssists from the Session Setup screen;
  • During a race, select PreferencesAssists from the in-game Pause menu.

Flashbacks

If you make a mistake on track, there’s no need to restart your race: you can use a flashback to rewind the action. Press the X key to enter a replay, then use the controls shown on screen to rewind and fast-forward. When you reach the point before things went wrong, press the F1 key to resume the race from that moment.

Mid-Session Save

Mid-session saves allow you to save your game at any point during a session, and return to it later. With mid-session saves, you can complete a full race weekend at your convenience.

To save your game during a session, press the Escape (esc) key to enter the in-game Pause menu, then select Save or Load a Mid Session Save.
