A very small percentage of people may experience a seizure when exposed to certain visual images, including flashing lights or patterns that may appear in video games. Even people who have no history of seizures or epilepsy may have an undiagnosed condition that can cause these “photosensitive epileptic seizures” while watching video games.
These seizures may have a variety of symptoms, including lightheadedness, altered vision, eye or face twitching, jerking or shaking of arms or legs, disorientation, confusion, or momentary loss of awareness. Seizures may also cause loss of consciousness or convulsions that can lead to injury from falling down or striking nearby objects.
Immediately stop playing and consult a doctor if you experience any of these symptoms. Parents should watch for or ask their children about the above symptoms—children and teenagers are more likely than adults to experience these seizures. The risk of photosensitive epileptic seizures may be reduced by taking the following precautions: Sit farther from the screen; use a smaller screen; play in a well-lit room; and do not play when you are drowsy or fatigued. If you or any of your relatives have a history of seizures or epilepsy, consult a doctor before playing.
At the age of nine, Lara survived a plane crash in the Himalayan mountains that led to the death of her mother. After miraculously enduring a ten-day solo trek from the crash site to Kathmandu, she spent the rest of her childhood under the close tutelage of her archaeologist father, the late Earl of Abbingdon, Richard Croft.
At the age of eighteen, after the death of her father, Lara inherited the Croft estates and became Countess of Abbingdon. Since then, she has pursued her own personal mission to uncover the secrets of the world’s distant past, and in doing so, hopes to understand how her parents died.

To shimmy along a ledge or object, press the Left and Right Arrow keys in the desired direction. To pull yourself up, press the Space bar.
To let go and drop down, press the Shift (⇧) key.
To jump from ledge to ledge across small gaps, hold down the Left, Down or Right Arrow keys in the desired direction, then press the Space bar.
Lara can use her grapple device to span gaps too wide for her to jump across.
Where you see a shiny or wall-mounted ring, you can use the grapple device to swing or wall walk.
To use the grapple, run towards the ring, jump by pressing the Space bar, then quickly press the Q key. To climb up or down the rope, hold down the E key and use the Up and Down Arrow keys.
To swing or wall walk, hold down the Arrow keys in the direction you want to move, then jump by pressing the Space bar to release the grapple device.
Using poles, Lara is able to swing from place to place or across gaps, to gain access to areas she is unable to reach by climbing.
To begin swinging on a pole, jump onto it.
To move along the pole or change the direction in which you’re swinging, use the Arrow keys. To swing, hold down the Up Arrow key, and to jump off onto another pole or platform, press the Space bar.
Lara can climb slender vertical columns to reach areas above and below her.
To begin climbing a column, jump onto it.
To climb around the column, use the Left and Right Arrow keys, or to climb up or slide down it, use the Up and Down Arrow keys.
To jump off a column, hold down the Arrow keys in the direction you want to jump and press the Space bar to leap off.
To let go of a column and drop down, press the Shift (⇧) key.
Lara can use ropes to span chasms that are too wide for her to jump.
To hang from a rope, jump onto it.
To climb up or down the rope, hold down the E key and use the Up and Down Arrow keys.
To make Lara rotate around the rope, changing the direction in which she can swing, use the Left and Right Arrow keys.
To swing on the rope and build momentum, use the Up and Down Arrow keys, and to jump off the rope, press the Space bar.
To let go of the rope and drop down, press the Shift (⇧) key.
To start climbing a ladder, move towards it or jump onto it.
To climb up or down the ladder, use the Up and Down Arrow keys. To climb more quickly, tap the E key repeatedly while climbing.
To jump backwards off a ladder, press the Space bar. To perform a lateral jump sideways off a ladder, hold down the Arrow keys in the direction you want to jump, then press the Space bar.
To let go of the ladder and drop down, press the Shift (⇧) key.
Lara can jump onto and perch on the tops of very small platforms (usually the tops of slender columns).
To jump onto an object you can perch on, press the Space bar. Once you’re on the platform and are steady, you can turn around by using the Left and Right Arrow keys.
To jump off the platform, hold down the Arrow keys in the direction you want to jump, then press the Space bar.
If Lara lands poorly on an object, she will lose her balance and begin to fall off. To regain balance, quickly press the E key.
NOTE: Lara can only balance on small platforms for a limited amount of time, so move to a stable surface as quickly as possible. If Lara begins to lose her balance while standing on an object, press the E key to regain balance.
Lara can swan dive off the edges of cliffs or high platforms. To perform a swan dive, jump over the edge by pressing and holding the Space bar, then quickly press the Shift (⇧) key before letting go of the Space bar.
Lara interacts with the environment in lots of different ways, opening doors, moving about and shooting objects that stand in her way.
To interact with an object, press the E key.
When Lara is hit by a very strong attack, she will stumble and fall to the ground.
When Lara is stumbling, quickly press the Space bar to stop her from falling and make her flip back up.
Lara is an accomplished acrobat who can perform lithe tumbles and flips as she moves about.
To tumble, press the Shift (⇧) key repeatedly.
To flip, press the Space bar repeatedly.
During combat, some enemies will become enraged. When this happens, they will charge at Lara and perform a “rage attack”. If an enemy performs a rage attack, Lara’s adrenaline will kick in to respond to the impending threat.
When this happens, the screen will blur to indicate that Lara can now perform an adrenaline dodge.
To dodge the attack, run left, right or backwards, and while running press the Shift (⇧) key.
If done correctly, time will be slowed and Lara will have the opportunity to return fire and attempt a headshot on her enemy. To successfully execute a headshot, wait until the two targeting reticles align over the enemy and turn red, then left-click to shoot. If Lara shoots before the two reticles overlap, she will not perform a headshot.
Adrenaline dodges are special evasive moves that can only be used in response to rage attacks. Timing is critical! If Lara dodges too late, her enemy may still hit her. With practice, using adrenaline can significantly increase Lara’s chances in combat.
Some enemies may grab Lara and shake her about. If an enemy grabs Lara, quickly alternate between pressing the Left and Right Arrow keys to make her break free from his grasp. The more quickly you press the keys, the more quickly Lara will break free.
Keeping Lara moving is perhaps the most important tactic in combat: a moving target is much harder to hit than a stationary one.
The targeting reticle appears when a target is within sight. The color of the reticle changes depending on the status of that target:
Red | Target is within range at the current distance |
Gray | Target is out of range |
When the reticle is locked on an enemy, four arrows will also appear around it, in addition to the normal targeting ring.
TIP: If the target is within distance but out of the field of view, an arrow will appear on the side of the screen to indicate the direction in which the target is located.
To access Lara’s inventory, press the Tab (⇥) key at any time during play. Lara’s inventory comprises two rotating rings of different objects: one for gear and one for items.
To use or equip an item from Lara’s inventory, rotate the ring to the desired object using the Left and Right Arrow keys, then press the Return (↩) key.
You can switch between the gear ring and the items ring using the Up and Down Arrow keys.
The gear ring contains weapons, health packs and other useful equipment.
The items ring contains Lara’s journal and any collectable objects that Lara discovers during her adventures.
Throughout Lara’s archaeological adventure, she’ll discover artefacts and relics to collect. Picking up these items unlocks bonus content and extra features, including outfits, concept art and more. Make sure to scour the environment thoroughly to find them!
After you complete each level, you will be told which rewards you have unlocked. To view your rewards, select Rewards from the Main Menu.
TIP: You can replay completed levels to find items you missed the first time by selecting Play Game → Replay Level from the Main Menu.
