  3. Can I play LEGO® The Hobbit™ with a gamepad?

    Yes.

LEGO® The Hobbit™ supports two categories of gamepads: Xbox 360 controllers (which require you to install a software driver) and other supported gamepads, listed below:

If you have an Xbox 360 controller, see How do I use an Xbox 360-compatible controller with LEGO® The Hobbit™? in these FAQs for a link to the software driver.

  4. How do I use an Xbox 360-compatible controller with LEGO® The Hobbit™?

The following Xbox 360-compatible controllers require a software driver in order to work:

The driver can be downloaded here:

    https://github.com/360Controller/360Controller/releases

Although these drivers are fully supported by the game, Feral does not offer support with the installation or operation of third-party drivers.

  5. Are there any gamepads that are recognised but unsupported?

    Yes.

The following gamepads will be recognised by the game but do not have enough buttons or analog controls to support all the possible in-game controls, meaning some in-game tasks will require the keyboard or mouse:

  6. When using a gamepad, how do I make my character run?

If you are moving using an analog stick on your gamepad, you may find that your character will only walk slowly, rather than run, even when you push the stick as far as possible in the direction you wish to move.

To fix this, you should enable the Stick Range Boost option in the Control Setup menu. To do so, ensure that your gamepad is plugged in before starting LEGO® The Hobbit™, then follow the steps below:

    1. From the Main Menu, select Options.

    2. Select Control Configuration.

    3. The Control Setup menu will appear. Set Stick Range Boost to Enabled.

  7. How do I switch my pad to the correct mode?

Some gamepads support both DirectInput and XInput modes. These gamepads can be identified by a switch on them that has two options, “D” (DirectInput) and “X” (XInput).

To play LEGO® The Hobbit™ a gamepad must be supported and set to DirectInput mode.

Currently supported devices that have this switch are:

If your gamepad has the switch and is not on this list, you will not be able to use it to play LEGO® The Hobbit™ without a pad support file. To obtain one, email padsupport@feralinteractive.com and our support team will reply to you with a request for information about your device. Once we have this information, we can usually create a gamepad support file and email it to you.

To switch the gamepad to DirectInput mode, follow these instructions:

    1. If the LEGO® The Hobbit™ application is running, close it.

    2. Unplug the gamepad (or wireless receiver, if the gamepad is wireless).

    3. Turn the switch on the pad to “D”.

    4. Plug the pad or wireless receiver back in.

    5. Restart the LEGO® The Hobbit™ application.

You will now be able to play LEGO® The Hobbit™ with the gamepad.

  8. How does a second player join the game?

How a second player joins the game depends on whether they are using a gamepad or a keyboard.

    Joining using a gamepad

Before starting the game, make sure the gamepad is connected to your computer. Press any button on the gamepad during play to activate Player 2. The character icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen will flash several times to confirm that a second player has joined.

    Joining using a keyboard

Press the F2 key during play to activate Player 2. The character icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen will flash several times to confirm that a second player has joined.

NOTE: If pressing the F2 key has no effect, you may need to change your keyboard's default settings. For instructions on how to do this, please see When I press the Function keys (F1-F19) nothing happens. How do I use the Function keys? in these FAQs.

  13. Can I play this game on a case-sensitive file system?

No. LEGO® The Hobbit™ has been tested with the basic formatting option for Mac OS X, which is HFS+. This system is not case-sensitive and identifies files by name without checking capitalization.

The capitalization of filenames is not consistent throughout the game. While this will not always prevent the game from running on case-sensitive file systems, it may lead to crashes and other unpredictable behaviour.

If you have to run a case-sensitive setup and you experience problems with LEGO® The Hobbit™, please install the game on a standard formatted partition or read/write disk image. In most cases this will allow you to play the game on your machine.

There are several factors which have an impact on the speed at which LEGO® The Hobbit™ runs. Please see the LEGO® The Hobbit™ Performance Tips section in the ReadMe for ways to increase the speed at which the game runs on your computer.
