The game should also work on other recent versions of Ubuntu, and may also work on other Linux distros; however, as the game has not been tested on these, it is possible that you will encounter performance and gameplay issues, and we do not currently offer support for other versions or distros.

  5. Can I play GRID™ Autosport with a gamepad?

    Yes.

The game supports gamepads using the SDL 2.0 API. For more information about SDL, see the SDL Wiki.

The gamepads in the following list have been tested and are supported by GRID™ Autosport:

The pads below are also supported by SDL and you should be able to use them to play GRID™ Autosport. However, as they have not been tested with the game, we cannot guarantee that they will work:

The steering wheels in the list below work with GRID™ Autosport, but they do not support Force Feedback or 900° rotation:

Before racing, you may need to map the game controls to inputs on your wheel and its components (such as pedals, if available). To do so, follow these steps:

    1. Ensure that your wheel and all its components are connected to your computer, then launch GRID™ Autosport.

    2. From the Main Menu, select Options & Extras.

    3. Select Options.

    4. Select Controls.

    5. Select Steer Left, then perform the action on your wheel to which you wish to map the “steer left” command.

    6. Repeat step 5 for all the other game commands, mapping them to the desired action on your wheel.

You may also wish to adjust the advanced control options (Main MenuOptions & ExtrasOptionsControlsAdvanced Options). For more information, see What do the advanced control options do? in these FAQs.

  7. How do I enable Force Feedback for Xbox® compatible gamepads?

By default, Force Feedback is disabled for Xbox compatible gamepads. This is because it causes hangs or crashes on certain Linux distributions and kernel versions, due to a bug in the default Linux driver for Xbox compatible pads (xpad).

It is likely that this will be fixed in an update to the Linux kernel in the future.

It is possible to fix this problem by patching the xpad driver yourself. However, we do not recommend doing so unless you are an experienced Linux user. If you wish to do so, you can find instructions on patching xpad in this Steam discussion.

Once you have patched the xpad driver, you can enable Force Feedback by ticking the Enable Force Feedback for Xbox® compatible gamepads checkbox on the Advanced tab of the pre-game Options window (this is the window that appears when you launch the game).

  8. Switching to a virtual terminal causes the game to crash or the graphics to render incorrectly. How do I prevent this from happening?

Switching between a virtual terminal (by pressing Ctrl + Alt + F1-F6) and the X server (by pressing Ctrl + Alt + F7) while the game is running may cause the game to crash or the graphics to render incorrectly.

The problem will be fixed the next time you launch the game.

We do not recommend switching to a virtual terminal while running the game, as the problem is likely to occur each time you do so.
