  1. Multiplayer Beta Now Available

Online multiplayer is now available as a beta feature in version 1.7 of Company of Heroes for mobile on iOS & Android.

Online multiplayer requires ownership of both the Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor expansions. This is to ensure content parity between all players.

To access online multiplayer select New GameSkirmishOnline Skirmish from the Main Menu. You will be prompted to create an account for Calico, Feral's online service.

Further information relating to the online multiplayer beta is available here.

  2. Why does Company of Heroes for mobile request local network access?

When playing multiplayer with other users on the same WiFi network, the game will attempt a direct connection between devices rather than over the internet. This results in a better multiplayer experience with a more reliable connection between players.

To do this, the game needs to request permission to connect to other devices on your local network.

You can still play online multiplayer without granting this permission, though players will connect to the match over the internet. This may result in a less reliable connection compared to a direct one.

You can always change this setting afterwards in the iOS Settings app:

    1. From your device's Home screen, open the Settings app.

    2. Select Privacy & Security.

    3. Select Local Network.

    4. From the list of apps, navigate to Company of Heroes for mobile and adjust the toggle to enable or disable Local Network access.

  6. What control methods are available in Company of Heroes?

Company of Heroes, offers two control methods; the Command Panel and the Command Wheel. You must select one of these control methods when starting the game for the first time, but can change methods at any time by selecting Options → Change Control Method from the Main Menu or Pause Menu.

    Command Panel
The Command Panel will be familiar to players who are used to playing RTS games on a desktop computer. When using the Command Panel, a selected squad’s unique abilities appear in a panel in the bottom right corner of the screen. To view a description of any of these, tap and hold on its icon.

    Command Wheel
The Command Wheel is designed specifically for mobile screens. When using this control method, select a squad then tap and hold on it to bring up the Command Wheel containing all of that squad’s unique abilities. Drag your finger over an ability to view its description, then release to select it. To close the Command Wheel without selecting an option, drag your finger back to the centre of the wheel and release.

In some cases, dragging over a certain ability will reveal further options associated with it. For example, when you drag your finger over an Engineer squad’s Build Defensive Structures option, the Command Wheel will change to display all the available constructions.

For targeted abilities like throwing a grenade, tap and hold directly on the target, select the grenade, and your squad will move into position to carry out the order.

  8. How do I set up a Skirmish battle?

The following settings can be adjusted when setting up an Offline or Online Skirmish (available via New GameSkirmish from the Main Menu).

Maps Use the drop-down menu to select a map. The number in brackets next to each map name indicates the maximum player count for that map. You can filter the maps by maximum player count using the second drop-down box.

The selected map’s size and maximum player count will be shown, alongside a preview of the map with white dots indicating the starting locations of each player. For more information on starting locations, see Starting Location below.

Teams With a map selected, choose which side you wish to fight on by tapping a slot under either Allies or Axis and selecting Move to this Team. Set up the other slots by tapping on them and selecting either an Easy, Normal, Hard or Expert AI player to fill them, or wait for other players to join your lobby if playing an Online Skirmish. You can also choose to Close a slot to limit the number of slots on a team, though there must be at least one army present on each side to start a battle.

Win Condition Choose between Annihilate and Victory Point Condition.

Starting Location Choose between Random and Fixed. Axis and Allies forces always start on opposite sides of the map. However:

Starting Resources Choose between Standard and High Resources. High Resources allow each side to build more structures and recruit more units earlier in the match.

Atmosphere Select the time of day and weather conditions for the battle. This option is only available on certain maps.

To begin the battle, tap the green arrow button in the bottom-right corner.

  11. Known issue in iOS 16 — screen rotation may obscure interface

In CoH for iOS, the screen orientation may only be rotated on the Main Menu. Rotating the screen is disabled at any other point in the game to avoid obscuring the interface behind the camera notch.

There is a known issue where this restriction is bypassed when using iOS 16 on devices with camera notches, resulting in the possibility of some interface elements being obscured.

If you are affected by this issue before it is resolved, please save your game and return to the Main Menu. Then you may orientate your device according to your preference, and load back into your game. The interface should now adapt to the position of the camera notch as before.

  12. KNOWN ISSUE: Circular touch cursor on screen when using mouse with Perform Touch Gestures active

    1. Open the iOS Settings app
    2. Navigate through Accessibility → Touch → Assistive Touch
    3. Set Perform Touch Gestures to Off
    4. Launch game

Alternatively, you can set Assistive Touch to Off altogether in Settings → Accessibility → Touch.
