What is Calico?
Calico is Feral's multiplayer matching service for games purchased through the Mac App Store. With Calico, Mac gamers can play against each other online and use the full range of social features of their games, including achievements, leaderboards and more.
Back to the topWhy “Calico”?
This is a reference to calico cats, which have a distinctive black, white and orange coloration (the official Feral colors!). A calico's coat can combine hundreds of spots and patches into a cohesive pattern, a bit like how the Calico service brings together a whole network of Mac gamers.
Back to the topWhat features does Calico support?
Calico supports online multiplayer gaming and matchmaking, friends lists, achievements, leaderboards, text chat, and more.
Back to the topWhat features are you planning to add in the future?
We're planning on regularly adding new features to Calico, and consulting with players to find out what they wish to see. If you have any ideas for new features you'd like, let us know!
Back to the topWhy can't you do this with Game Center?
Game Center was designed to work with iOS-style games, which are far less demanding than desktop Mac games. It can only support online play for a relatively small number of players. In order for Mac App Store gamers to enjoy complex multiplayer gaming, we needed to create our own proprietary software, so we made Calico. It also turned out to be a timely move, as Apple retired Game Center entirely with the introduction of macOS Sierra.
Back to the topWhich games are compatible with Calico?
You can see a list of the games that support online multiplayer via Calico on the sign-up page
All Feral games launched on the Mac App Store since August 2015 have support for achievements tracked through Calico (formerly known as Feral Accounts).
Back to the topHow do I sign up for Calico?
You can sign up for an account here: www.feralinteractive.com/xx/accounts/signup
Back to the topHow do I access Calico features in-game?
To use Calico's online features in a game, log in via the pre-game Options window (this is the window that appears when you launch a game).
You can bring up the Calico overlay at any time by pressing Shift + Tab. From here, you can access all of Calico's in-game features.
Back to the topDo I need to download any extra software?
No. Calico is built directly into each supported game.
Back to the topAre other games, such as other publishers' games or games without DRM, compatible with Calico?
No. Calico is currently only compatible with Feral games purchased through the Mac App Store.
Back to the topCan I play against players on Steam or against Windows and Linux gamers?
No. Calico currently only supports Mac vs Mac multiplayer for games purchased through the Mac App Store.
Back to the topCan Game Center or Steam achievements be migrated to Calico?
Not currently, but this is a feature that we may add in the future.
Back to the topHow do I add someone to my friends list in Calico?
You can add friends either through the in-game overlay, or via the Calico section of our website. In either case, just search for the person you'd like to add under the Friends tab.
Back to the topCan I talk to my friends through Calico?
Calico currently supports text chat, and we're planning to add voice chat in the near future.
Back to the topWhat is the maximum number of players for multiplayer games?
This depends on which game you're playing: Calico doesn't have a limit, so whether your game supports two players or twenty, Calico will let you play with up to that number.
Back to the topHow do I edit my profile?
You can edit your profile by logging in to Calico on our website.
Once you're logged in, select Settings to edit your profile.
Back to the topWhat can I change on my profile?
You can change your nickname (the name visible to other players online), your login details, location settings, avatar, privacy settings, and communication preferences.
Back to the topWho can view my profile?
By default, your profile is visible only to people on your friends list. You can change your privacy settings to make it public (so everyone can see it) or private (so no one can).
Back to the topCan I view other players' profiles?
Yes. To view someone's profile, just click on their name in your friends list on the Calico section of our website. However, if they've made their profile private, you will not be able to view it.
Back to the topCan I see my friends' achievements?
Not currently, but we'll be adding new features to Calico in the future and this is on our to-do list.
Back to the topCan I use an online avatar in Calico?
Yes. We have a selection of avatars from Feral's most popular games for you to choose from, and you can also upload your own. Your avatar will be viewable by everyone you play with online, and on your profile.
Back to the topWhat can I do if I am a victim of online abuse while playing a game?
You have two options. Firstly, you can block the offending user; this will prevent them from communicating with you again, and they will not see when you're online. To block someone, log in to Calico on our website and search for them in the Friends tab; you'll find a Block button next to their name. Secondly, you can report the offending user to us by contacting our support team at: support@feralinteractive.com.
Back to the topAre there parental settings for Calico?
Not currently, but we'll be adding new features to Calico in the future and this is on our to do list.
Back to the topIs player information shared with anyone?
Feral may share your information with third parties in order to provide account services. We do not disclose this information to any entities other than our trusted partners in order to provide their services.
